Abstract

Infection of the paranasal sinuses and concurrent infection of the bronchopulmonary tree are difficult, and often recurrent problems. Safety and efficacy are both important in the treatment of this condition. In this study, the authors have evauated the antibacterial effect of doxycycline hyclate (Vibramycin®) in the treatment of acute sinusitis and the sinobronchial syndrome. Based on the results of this study, the drug's low potential for adverse reactions, and convenient dosage which is highly desirable for patient compliance, the authors find doxycycline to be an effective antibacterial choice in the treatment of this troublesome condition.
