Description

Suturing is a vital skill for all medical students. Throughout the first two years of didactics, there are only a few opportunities for students to learn this skill. Our surgery club at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine South Georgia campus began to organize workshops to help students increase their exposure to suturing before beginning their clinical clerkships. The study was designed to help improve the understanding of how different suturing materials and mediums impact medical student learning. In addition, we aim to study how attending suture workshops influences students' aspirations for a career in the surgical field. Responses to the survey were recorded after each workshop and tracked to watch the progress among the participants. We hypothesize that exposure to these workshops will increase the comfort and confidence of the participants before going on their respective rotations.
