Description

Pre-clinical education of most United States medical schools emphasizes foundational concepts of medicine, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, as well as essential practical competencies like taking medical histories and performing physical exams. Medical school curricula typically provide limited exposure to hands-on surgical and procedural skills training. This study will survey medical students who complete skills training using a laparoscopic simulator prior to and upon completion of their surgical clerkship. This study seeks to assess whether surgical skills training using the laparoscopic simulator affects the medical student's preparedness for surgical clerkships as well as interest in surgical residency and careers.
