Speaker Bios:

Dr. Christina Berchock Shook is a Clinical Psychologist and Team Leader of the Primary Care-Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) & Consultation Liaison (C&L) programs at the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Dr. Shook received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Muhlenberg College and a Master’s of Arts in Applied Clinical Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University. She received a Master of Science and Doctor of Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a Medical Psychology Internship at the VA North Texas Healthcare System and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Primary Care-Mental Health Integration at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She is currently in the process of obtaining her Board Certification in Clinical Health Psychology.

Since completing her clinical training, she has taken over as Team Lead of a dynamic, integrated, interdisciplinary team that provides co-located collaborative care and care management services to Veterans within the primary care and specialty medicine settings, with a goal of providing truly integrated Behavioral Medicine services throughout all medical disciplines. She is also passionate about training future psychologists within the clinical training program she developed at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. Dr. Shook is committed to enhancing the well-being and healthcare of Veterans by providing increased access to behavioral medicine services, contributing to more positive treatment outcomes, and reducing health care burdens. In addition to her work as a clinical psychologist, she is also a new mother, wife, daughter, equestrian, and antique automotive enthusiast.

Dr. Gregory Khan-Arthur is an Osteopathic pain specialist for the Veterans Health Administration, Lebanon VA Medical Center in Pennsylvania. He is Board Certified in Osteopathic Family Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy, and holds a conjoint Board Certification in Pain Medicine. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Khan-Arthur completed his bachelors degree in biology from Vassar College. Upon graduation, he spent a year investigating police misconduct for the Office of the Mayor in New York City before beginning his formal medical training at the UMDNJ’s School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship and Family Medicine residency in one of the largest and busiest hospitals in the country, Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn.

Since then, Dr. Khan-Arthur has completed fellowship training in addiction medicine and pain management. He has served on the medical staff at the US Military Academy at West Point, and continues to serve in the United States Air Force as a commissioned medical officer. He is currently assigned to the Air Force Special Operations Command as an operational Senior Flight Surgeon. As a decorated Veteran of conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Balkans, and Africa, Dr. Khan-Arthur is committed to a career of service to our national security and those that protect it.

Michelle L. Gitke is a certified physician assistant who practices primary care medicine and pain at the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon Pennsylvania. She is certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. She graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. She then attended Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science and graduated with a program certificate in 1998. Later that year she became certified by the NCCPA. She began practicing medicine in 1999 and started her career with the VHA in 2003. She is the present pain point of contact (POC) for her facility. She has attended VISN 4 conferences on the implementation of the stepped care model for pain. At her facility she is involved in various committees including: Professional Standards Board (PSB), Performance Executive Council (PEC), OEF/OIF, HFEMA 2010 Pain, Peer Review, VA survey focus group, Dragon task force, Clinician Summit Planning Committee and presenter (motivational interviewing), Pain education for veterans, Veterans satisfaction Committee, and Pain Committee. She has been the program coordinator and launched the chronic pain school in 2010. She has been a consultant on several documents/policies pertaining to pain for her local facility. She continues to manage her panel of primary care patients and devotes the other half of her clinical duties to pain.

Mrs. Gitke, PA-C, provides clinical coverage for a methadone maintenance program locally in her community. She is one of the clinicians who volunteer their time to provide annual sports physicals to a few of the local public schools in her area. In addition, she provides medical coverage at the county prison when the current provider gets deployed.
